E4’s award-winning home-grown drama series returns for it’s third series. Written by one of the youngest writing teams in TV drama history, and with defining contributions from teenagers consulted at the storylining stage, Skins truly is for, about and by young people. Series three features a brand new cast, chosen from a massive online open casting process, with over 12000 auditioning for the show, from all over the UK.
It’s the first day of term at Roundview College and a new gang is forming: the class of 2009. Best friends Freddie (Luke Pasqualino), JJ (Ollie Barbieri), and Cook (Jack O’Connell) are enroute to college. Their world collides with Effy’s (Kaya Scodelario), when Cook spots an opportunity to set up innocent bystander, Jim Stonem (Harry Enfield), Effy’s dad. He carries out the practical joke, at Jim’s expense, while Effy looks on nonchalantly, unperturbed – Cook is intrigued. He has met his match and now has a reason to turn up at College. But, both Freddie and JJ are equally smitten.
Identical twin sisters, Katie (Megan Prescott) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott), prepare for the day. As per usual, Katie walks all over Emily – stealing her outfit and using all of the hot water. Once at college, Effy and Katie clock one another immediately; Katie suggests that they are the two most desirable girls at the college. Effy sizes up her rival, as her best mate Pandora (Lisa Backwell) dreams of losing her virginity.
The new intake is herded into the main hall. Cook tries to charm the girl sitting next to him – but instead winds her up, boasting of his inappropriately positioned tattoo. Naomi (Lily Loveless) doesn’t suffer fools gladly and grasses Cook up. The result – he has to drop his trousers to the whole school year – but it’s water off a duck’s back to Cook, and he proudly reveals all.
At Cook’s behest, JJ tries out a bunch of tricks on a deaf girl, Pixie. She’s no push-over and, totally unimpressed, kicks Cook where it hurts. While he’s incapacitated, Freddie grabs the opportunity to try to chat up Effy. She issues the boys with a challenge – the first one to break all the rules set out by the College Director during assembly gets to ‘know her’. And so the first day at college begins….
The new series features a roll call of UK comedy talent, including: Harry Enfield, Morwenna Banks, Geoff Hughs, Maureen Lipman, Mackenzie Crook, Scott Mills, Rick Fulcher, Simon Day, Olivia Coleman, Josie Long, and Matt King.
With a music score drawn drawn from the cream of new British music; talented fans; Beyonce’s producers; The Rural; and in-house composers Fat Segal and Timothy Victor, the soundtrack to Skins promises to set the tone for the return of this innovative landmark series.
Executive Producer is Bryan Elsley. Series Producer is Chris Clough.
