Sid lives in a dysfunctional family with an angry father who views Sid as an underachiever, and unfavourably compares Sid failings in contrast with the academically gifted Tony’s achievements. Sid has two days to finish his history coursework. Tony’s schemes get more and more complex as he invites Sid and Michelle to his choir production where he passionately kisses Abigal after a duet on stage. Michelle and Tony break up which leads Tony to encourage Sid to follow her. She reacts angrily after being attacked by some female chavs and accuses Sid of knowing Tony was “pulling a stunt”. Because of this, Sid faces failing at school with one day left to do his coursework. Also Sid meets Cassie in his bedroom who was waiting for him after he said she could come round his, as he was grounded. The next day he calls Michelle pleading to meet up, which Cassie overhears. Michelle meets with Sid, apologising to him as she forgets Sid and Tony “come as a package”, forgetting Sid’s good nature. Sid appears angry at her suggestion he is a “nice guy”. The two dance but Tony intervenes, thus demonstrating his power and status over them and further emotionally damages his friends. Through Sid meeting with Michelle, he unintentionally manages to break Cassie’s heart. She is distraught and attempts to commit suicide. Her subsequent drug overdose forces Sid to realise her affections for him. Sid also stays up the entire night and successfully finishes his history coursework, implying he is intelligent when he focuses.
