Jal prepares herself for the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition while facing difficulties with her family. Her father is shown to be a celebrity, having been a success in the Hip Hop industry. Her younger brothers and their friend attempt to become rappers themselves but it is apparent their ability is poor. It is revealed her mother left the family when Jal was young, but the reasons are unknown. Thus Jal finds herself unable to concentrate and when Michelle and Tony leave her to have sex in Tony’s house (after promising to go shopping for a dress for her competition), Jal turns to Sid to help pick her dress. His communication with woman comes under scruntiny as Jal criticises him for his lack of understanding and his constant “moping over Michelle” which leads Sid to attempt a weak denial. Jal later expresses dissatisfaction at her dress, appears uninterested during an interview on television to which Michelle picks one of her dresses for Jal to wear. Later at Jal’s party, the males in the group are surprised at Jal’s choice of attire which displays notable cleavage, earning lustful stares. This angers Michelle as she is used to being the centre of men’s attention. Michelle then admits to Sid she knows he has a thing for her during a one on one discussion as she enviously watches Tony flirt with Abbie. Michelle then compares her relationship with Sid to that of “a brother sister thing”. This makes Sid more disillusioned which leads him to become ignorant of Cassie’s attention. The angry drug dealer eventually corners Sid, breaking Jal’s instrument. Jal’s father buys her a new one and apprehends the drug dealer, his fate unknown.
